Poker Tips From Our Pro

JBI read a post yesterday that I found hilarious. The thread was discussing different books and one of the posters indicated that you should be an “experienced” Hold’em player, with 100+ hours of play, before you start reading Sklansky, because his books were just too advanced. Now I happen to agree that most of Sklansky’s books to require experience. I’m just not sure that 100 hours should be considered experienced. Actually, I’m not sure 1000 hours should be considered experienced.

Let’s break down 100 hours, at 10 hours of play per week that’s 10 weeks, or 2.5 months. Ten hours per week might be a bit low. When I started, I played 2 days a week about 8 hours per day or 16 per week. So I guess I would have been experienced after 6 weeks. With online poker now I probably play 30 hours per week. I could be experienced in only 4 weeks. A month that is real easy. Even at 1000 hours of play, it would take less than a year.
