I receive lots of questions by e-mail and in the Poker Forum from beginners asking for poker tips on getting started with online poker. Many of these are common questions so I thought I’d share a few choice online poker tips.

1. If you are new to online poker, be sure to learn the software of the poker site you have chosen to play. It doesn’t make sense to start playing poker for real money and make mistakes with an individual site’s poker software, since every poker site offers free poker games until a player gets up to speed. Play in these free poker games for at least 10–15 minutes to get used to the methodology of posting blinds, etc., before risking your hard-earned dollars.

Take a moment to evaluate the amount of time and psychological energy you invest into the game of poker. Even away from the table, how much of your daily focus is directly placed on your last game, your next game, or your bad beats? Have you been thinking about poker during your morning commute, during your lunch break, while in the bathroom, or while at the family dinner table? Perhaps you’ve even thought about poker while you slumber, tossing uncomfortably around the bed as you have nightmares about cracked aces. Poker bonus whoring has become quite the popular method of building or expanding a poker bankroll.

Practically every online poker room offers some kind of bonus or incentive for signing up. A good poker player, and even a novice in some instances can seriously augment a bankroll over the course of several months by simply taking advantage of these bonus offers.

Our own Ashbash perfected the art of bonus whoring over the course of several months and detailed his odyssey in our forums.

Bonus – Current standard bonus is 35% up to $210. (Edit - this bonus was only $100 when Ashbash wrote this article)

Cash Out – 100 raked hands at 50c/$1 or higher, and 30 days from the award of the bonus. This 30 days is unique to Absolute and a big issue for many players.

Cashier/Support - Pretty responsive, but the quality of the individuals varies. Cash out was in my Neteller account within 5 hours of the request – excellent service for a cash out of over $1k.
